According to an exclusive report by Shmulik Shelach and Ron Shteinblat on Globes’ website, communications company RiverBed is about to purchase the Tel Aviv start-up Expand for the “bargain price” of 30-40 million dollars, after the company has seen investments totaling $85 million since 1998.
Expand, which specializes in web-application acceleration, employs about 140 employees, with more than half of which work in Israel.
RiverBed, a NASDAQ traded company, is one of the world leaders in WAN Optimiation, the same field in which Expand was trying to compete against other giants such as Cisco and Juniper.
Expand’s CEO is Elie Barr, and among the venture capital funds which invested in the company are Tamir Fishman’s fund, Intel Capital and Vertex Venture Fund.
Other key Expand personnel are: Efi Gatmor, CTO, Rony Atoun, VP of Research and Development and Zvi Bichler, VP of Operations.
